Stewardship
For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Matthew 6:21
Jesus’ message to us about how we use our resources is one of the most challenging elements of the Gospel. The ministry of stewardship is an invitation to take up this challenge. When we are generous, we acknowledge the abundance in our lives and our confidence in God’s provision to us. So when we give to Northminster, we are claiming this church as a part of God’s work and claiming also our part in this community. There are two primary ways to give to Northminster:
Annual Budget
We strongly recommend that each member and regular attender at Northminster tithe to the church budget. The general budget is what makes the church function, from our basic missions and ministry work to utility bills and paper goods. This is the primary way Northminster ministers to its community week-in and week-out.
The Wider-Net (Community Missions and Education Building Endeavor)
The Wider-Net is a two-pronged project of Northminster to minister to the Georgetown/Mid-City community of Jackson and also to build an education building on the church premises. The missions component recognizes the need to nurture a community ministry that would bring hope and opportunity to people in a particular disadvantaged inner-city area of Jackson, Mississippi by touching their lives spiritually, physically and socially and leading them to resources and cooperative activities that would empower them in the name of Christ. The building component came out of a church self-study which determined that Northminster’s current building space was not adequate for our growing education programs and membership. Consequently, we broke ground on a new adult education building in the Spring of 2006. While many church members have sacrificially given and pledged to the Wider-Net, more gifts are still necessary to bring this two-pronged project to fruition. We recommend gifts above your tithe and offering to go to help bring this ministry to its completion.
Special Gifts
Additionally, church members occasionally make a special gift to the church in memory of a loved one or to help with some special project. Special gifts to the church for particular projects or dreams will be presented to the Special Gifts Committee for consideration. Please contact the church office to be connected to this committee for any special gift you would like to be considered.
