A New Year for Children and Youth
Promotion Sunday is one of the best Sundays of the year. There is always a little excitement—and sometimes a little confusion—as children find their new classrooms, meet new teachers, and move into a new year together. This year, we celebrated Promotion Sunday on August 9, welcoming our children and youth into their new Sunday School classes and getting ready for another year of learning, serving, playing, and growing together.
We have a lot planned for children and youth this fall, with opportunities to connect throughout the week. Here’s what’s coming up in our weekly schedules:
Wednesday Night Suppers | Wednesdays, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
Wednesday nights are a chance for the whole family of faith to share a meal and worship together. We’ll gather for supper and a brief Vespers service each Wednesday beginning September 9 and continuing through November 18, when we’ll end the semester with our annual Thanksgiving Potluck.
Children
Sunday School | Sundays, 9:15–10:15 a.m.
Children meet in their classes each Sunday to study the Bible. Our theme this year is “God’s Story, Our Hands.” Sunday School will not meet on September 6, December 20, or December 27.
Sunday Night Activities | Sundays, 5:00–6:30 p.m.
Beginning September 14, children will gather each Sunday evening in the Preschool Atrium, Elementary Atrium, or Four5six for ages 5–6 and 5th–6th grades. We’ll have supper together from 6:00–6:30 p.m. Sunday night activities will not meet November 8 or November 22 and will conclude for the semester on December 6.
Youth
Sunday School | Sundays, 9:15–10:15 a.m.
Our teenagers meet in the Youth House for Sunday School. Each semester our rotation of teachers walks with us through a book of the Bible. This fall, we’ll be reading Exodus. Sunday School will not meet on September 6, December 20, or December 27.
Sunday Night Activities | Sundays, 5:00–6:30 p.m.
Youth Sunday night activities resume August 23. Most weeks we gather for a meal, games, and Bible study, but we have a few special events planned as well. Our spiritual formation focus for the school year will be “Open Hearts, Willing Hands, Wide Tables” as we look at what our faith means in service and hospitality. Sunday night activities will not meet November 8 or November 22 and will conclude for the semester on December 6.
The fall is a busy one at Northminster, and we’re excited to have our children and youth back together. Whether they are heading into a new Sunday School class, joining a Sunday night group, or gathering around the Wednesday night supper table, we hope this fall will be a good one for our children, youth, and their families.
