Committee Spotlight: Youth Committee

June 17, 2026

It’s summer in the Northminster Youth Ministry, and even with their busy personal schedules our students have lots of chances to grow in fellowship and service. Already this summer, youth have had the chance to cook at Stewpot and spend an evening catching up in the Youth House. In the weeks to come, youth will have an outing to Top Golf, travel to serve with Passport Missions in Harrisonburg, VA, and much more.

While the Northminster Youth Ministry has shifted into its summer rhythm, the Youth Committee is already considering how the joys of the last school year can carry into the coming academic year. In April, the Youth House hosted the first annual Welcome Night for 6th graders, and the committee is excited about the energy this large, active group of students will bring. This event was planned with our returning students to create a special memory for new youth.

In 2027, our students will be invited to help reboot the annual youth mission trip, and the committee is planning ways to help them prepare for this step. This coming year’s spiritual formation emphasis will be on hospitality, with “Open Hearts, Willing Hands, Wide Tables” as the theme. Throughout the year, youth will learn about Christ’s call to welcome through a variety of voices, have chances to put themselves out there in offering welcome, and fellowship together along the way.

This year’s committee includes Lorraine Boykin, Barrie Mahaffey, Dabbs Massey, Robert Crisler, Jennifer Stribling, Taylor Beard, Brooks Elfert, and Jacob Moremen, and is co-chaired by Hart Wylie and Jill Buckley.

The committee is incredibly thankful for the generous, welcoming spirit of Northminster that makes this ministry possible. If you’d like to learn more or get involved with our ministry, please contact Geoff Davidson, our Associate Pastor for Students.
