Committee Spotlight: (Missions)
The Missions Committee is made up of laypeople and pastoral staff who work together to create grants for our partners in our Jackson community. Currently, we provide funding to 12 local nonprofits that serve the greater Jackson area. You can see these organizations under the “Missions Partners” tab on the Missions page of our website. The organizations range from educational and social opportunities for children, to low-income housing, to food for unhoused, under-resourced, or elderly Jacksonians, and everything in between.
As we look to the fall, the Missions Committee is hosting a Fall Costume Drive for The McClean Fletcher Center, a grief support center for grieving children and teens ages 4-18 who have lost someone important in their lives, such as a parent or other special person. As everything in the grief center is donated, they look to their mission partners to supply their needs. We are excited to refresh their dress-up closet, which is particularly fun and helpful for the younger children.
As you’re buying costumes this year, pick up a second, or donate the old costumes sitting in the back of your kids’ closets. You can also purchase discounted costumes after Halloween! To donate a costume, bring it to church any time between October 25 and November 15 and place it in one of the donation bins, which will be located around the building.
Looking to the future, we’re exploring ways to get involved with our partners in the community through service, providing Northminsterites of all ages opportunities to serve our most vulnerable neighbors. If you want to get involved or have questions, please contact Masyn Evans-Clements at masyn@northminsterbaptist.org.
