The parables of Jesus are among the most well-known and beloved passages from scripture. In these pithy, confounding stories and images, Jesus flips our conventions on their head to illuminate the mystery and wonder of the Kingdom of God.

Over these six weeks, we will take an extended look at some of these parables, using Amy-Jill Levine’s beautiful and provocative book, Short Stories by Jesus, as a conversation partner. In addition to being a premier New Testament scholar, Levine is also a practicing Orthodox Jew. Her unique perspective often flips our conventional readings of these stories on their head, helping us to hear them again for the first time. This will be our aim as we read again together these stories that are often as peculiar and surprising as they are beloved.
